NON-STEROIDAL ANALGESIC, ANTI-INFLAMMATORY AND ANTIPYRETIC

Formula:
Phenylbutazone 13.3 g.; Aminopyrine (Piramidon) 5.0 g.; Excip. q.s. 100 ml.
Indications:
Analgesic, anti-inflammatory and antipyretic indicated to relieve inflammatory processes and pain related to musculoskeletal system injuries, whether of rheumatoid, traumatic or other origin. In general, somatic manifestations respond well, unlike those of visceral origin. The presence of Aminopyrine enhances the analgesic and antipyretic action.
Administration and dosage:
Injectable. (Slow intravenous route only). The basic dosage is 2.2-4.4 mg/kg of Phenylbutazone and 0.82-1.64 mg/kg of Aminopyrine. For an adult horse, 10 ml is normally given for 5 days. The product should be given at the indicated doses. Do not overdose.
Contraindications and precautions:
Contraindicated in horses with a history of blood dyscrasias or gastrointestinal ulcers. Do not use in animals intended for human consumption. Do not use in animals with hypersensitivity disorders. Administer with caution in foals and Pony breeds due to a higher incidence of hypoproteinemia and ulcers, and in patients with a history of renal and cardiac conditions. Do not use in the third trimester of pregnancy. Careful use is recommended during lactation. The product may stimulate the metabolism of chlorinated hydrocarbons, barbiturates and meprobamate. Doses higher than recommended may cause intestinal ulceration. Necrotizing phlebitis of the portal veins has also been observed at high doses. Agranulocytosis (common in humans) is rare in animals.
