LIDOCAINE 2% | LOCAL ANESTHETIC
Vial x 100 ml
Formula:
Lidocaine Hydrochloride 2 g.; Excipients q.s. 100 ml.
Indications:
Nerve block, local infiltration, paravertebral block, epidural anesthesia, intra-articular anesthesia, intravenous anesthesia (with
tourniquet).
Dosage and routes of administration:
Epidural anesthesia: Cattle: 1 to 3 ml/90 kg bw. Horses: 1 to 2 ml/90 kg bw. Dogs: 1.1 mg to 2.2 mg/kg bw, which
is equivalent to 0.05 to 0.1 ml/kg bw.
Paravertebral anesthesia: Cattle and Horses: 10 to 15 ml at each injection site.
Regional intravenous anesthesia (with tourniquet): 10 to 20 ml
Nerve trunk block anesthesia: Depends on the species and size of the nerve trunk. Horses and Cattle: Maxillary nerve:
10 to 20 ml;
Peroneal nerve: 5 to 10 ml; Tibial nerve: 5 to 10 ml; Palpebral nerve: 5 to 8 ml; Digital nerve: 2 to 3 ml.
Intra-articular anesthesia: In adult Cattle and Horses: Small joints (interphalangeal, fetlock): 2 to 5 ml. Large joints (tarsus, scapulo-
humeral): 15 ml. These doses are indicative and may be adjusted at the discretion of the attending professional.
Contraindications:
In cats and in patients with atrioventricular block. Do not administer to patients allergic or sensitive to the components of the formula.
Precautions:
Use with caution in patients with liver disease, congestive heart disease, shock, or with marked respiratory depression or hypoxia.
Monitor for infection at the injection site. DO NOT USE IN ANIMALS INTENDED FOR HUMAN CONSUMPTION.
