Flunixin Hampton

NON-STEROIDAL ANALGESIC ANTI-INFLAMMATORY (FLUNIXIN MEGLUMINE)

Bottle x 10, 25 and 50 ml

Formula:
Each ml contains: Flunixin 50 mg.; Excipients q.s. 1 ml.

Action:
Potent analgesic with no narcotic or steroidal action, with antipyretic and anti-inflammatory activity.

Routes of administration:
IV, IM route of administration. If administering IM, split the dose into 2 sites.
Horses: The recommended dose for musculoskeletal disorders is 1.1 mg/kg bw which is equivalent to 1 ml (50 mg of flunixin) per 45 kg bw via IM or IV, once daily and may be repeated for no more than 5 consecutive days. Maximum response occurs between 12 and 16 hours and lasts 24-36 hours. The recommended dose for relief of pain associated with equine colic is 1 ml per 45 kg bw. IV administration is recommended for rapid pain relief, in less than 15 minutes in many cases. Treatment may be repeated if colic symptoms reappear.
Cattle: 1.1 to 2.2 mg/kg bw (1.1 to 2.2 ml per 50 kg bw)
Calves: 2 to 3 ml as a single dose.
Dogs: between 1.1 and 2.0 mg/kg bw (0.22 - 0.4 ml per 10 kg bw).

DO NOT EXCEED THE INDICATED DOSES.

Species:
Horses, Cattle, Dogs. DO NOT ADMINISTER TO CATS.

Warnings:
Intra-arterial injection should be avoided. Horses accidentally injected via this route may show adverse reactions such as ataxia, incoordination, hyperventilation, hysteria and muscle tremors. Symptoms are transient and disappear without any medication after a few minutes. In case of accidental intoxication, discontinue treatment and start supportive therapy.

Contraindications:
Do not use in pregnant females or lactating cows, nor in animals allergic or sensitive to FLUNIXIN MEGLUMINE. Do not use in cases of severe renal or hepatic damage, or in animals with gastrointestinal mucosal lesions caused by endoparasites. Do not use in colic caused by ileus and associated with dehydration. Do not apply to horses in training within the 8 days prior to racing. Do not apply to horses intended for human consumption. Do not administer to dogs under 3 months of age. Prolonged use should be avoided in debilitated dogs or when another anti-inflammatory therapy is being administered. Withdrawal periods for human consumption of treated animals: cattle: 7 days pre-slaughter and 5 days pre-milking.
